Braille Institute's VisionSim (v3.0) app for iPhone and iPad offers a unique perspective, allowing individuals with normal sight to comprehend the visual challenges of nine degenerative eye diseases. The simulated conditions include age-related macular degeneration, cataracts, chronic open-angle glaucoma, corneal edema, diabetic retinopathy, homonymous hemianopia, macular degeneration, retinal detachment, and retinitis pigmentosa.

The app utilises the device's camera alongside digital filters to provide users with an immersive experience of the symptoms corresponding to each disease. Through intuitive touch controls, users can adjust the intensity of these visual impairments. Furthermore, users have the option to save still images from the simulations for personal reference or sharing.

(Note: For iOS version 6+ users - To save your VisionSim 'simulator' images, navigate to SETTINGS > PRIVACY > PHOTOS > enable VisionSim 'ON')
